A couple of possibilities: did you start ACT! using the Run as Administrator option. The other possibility is that you may need to be doing this from the ACT! program on the server.

Re: When trying to change password on administator getting application error

Yes to both I was on the server database and running as administrator.

It allows me to reset password and continue thru until I get to finish - I get the pop up reminding me to change password on 3rd party software hit ok and than I get the application error.

It is a generic error so I am not finding what truly is the issue.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I've seen strange things happening when a "bad combination" of the 3 checkboxes was set. Remove ALL checks and try again:

Thank you for responding but, that didn't fix it.  Was sure hoping it would..

The application error likely refers to the Act Scheduler service - I'd go into Tools > Act! Scheduler and make sure that any scheduled tasks are using the correct password.

Re: When trying to change password on administator getting application error

I tried changing in scheduler first still wouldn't work.  So I deleted the task and went back to change the password under manage users and it still won't allow me to change.  All passwords have no restrictions to the character creation.   Still getting application error.  I get the error when trying to change the password under manage users.
