Our goal is to use act for all customer info..so when they call or we call them...we can pull up their history..etc
there are two users.
What is best way to do this...and most cost effective? Our current ACT contact list is over 20,000 people...many are just purchased leads...
we're a tiny business trying to make the best use of resources.
We own ACT premium 2011 and have an XP machine and Win7 laptop

If you have a network in place, to allow the 2 computers to communicate/share files, there are 2 options available:
1. Shared database: both computers access the same database. All updates are real time and immediately available to each user. Database not available to laptop when not connected to network.
2. Remote database on laptop: Main database on desktop computer, remote database on laptop; synchronize updates in 2 way fashion. Synchronization can be run as often as desired (when connected to network), but updates not available in other database until the sync is run. Remote database is available for use even when laptop is not connected to the network.
Here are articles with setup instructions for both scenarios:
Shared database: KB Article 13878
Remote database: KB Article 14116

Thank you...I was underimpression that the server...only hosting the database...does not have to have ACT installed --yet this article says it does...
Otherwise the set-up seems pretty straight forward. any hiccups I might expect?
please advise...Thank you

The ACT! program will be installed on all computers that either have a database on it or want to access a shared database.
So: Yes, it will be installed on the XP and the Win 7 machines.
