Unable to reconnect to ACT database

We have 11 computers connected to the the ACT database on our server. Recently I had to rename one of my users profiles and had to reconnect to the database.  However every time I attempt to I get the following error message:

<DATABASE>

The file is in use. 

Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program.  

 

I thought it might have been an issue with that computer, so I attempted to connect to in on another computer that had not connected to the database before and I got the same error message.  

 

Can you assit with this?

Try Tools-> Database Maintenance -> Check and Repair

Can the database be corrupt or damaged if other users are still connected to it?

From the last paragraph of your writing, I found that you have the same problem on other computers
