Unable to add New Group

I have a database that was created in an old version of ACT that I am NOT able to add new Groups to every time that I try it gives me an error. I am using ACT Pro 2012

What's the actual error?
Have you updated your ACT! to Service Pack 1 - in Help About would say 14.1?

No, I have version 14.0.572.0 Hot Fix 2, I will update.

 

a few different errors. One shut down ACT it has encountered an error shutdown. the other value cannot be null parameter name: criteria.

Thank you so much, the update did not fix the problem, but I went to the link you provided and took off the duplicate checking and this worked. Thank you so much, this was getting very frustrating, such a simple solution.
