I'm trying to edit a field but when i click finish it says that it's unable to access the server, and I'm unable to edit the field. I'm using the web version of Act!.

the database resides on my machine. I've tried to define the fields from my database (installed on my computer) and on the Web version, and neither option works. The define fields tab on the software version is greyed out, and the define fields tab is giving me server errors.

If we haven't yet, let's make sure you have rights to change. Can I have you go to the Tools menu, then Manage Users.
In the new dialog box that appears does your User Name have Administrator in Security Role column?
