Trouble restoring a backup ACT Premium V10 (2008)

I get an long exception message startint with "The SQL Database Service is not started...etc etc"

 

Anyone wanna help? ....Please.....Pretty please....

Hello mitchk,
The error would indicate that the local SQL Server on your machine is not installed or not running - this is required to make a backup. See this KB article for instructions to check the SQL Server service (different error, but same process):

"Windows could not start the SQL Server (ACT7) on a local computer. For more info review the system event log."

This error usually indicates an issue with the SQL Server install. Please see the following KB article for more information:

My apologies. I provided an article for the wrong version of SQL Server. For 2008, you would be using SQL 2005. Here is the article to uninstall SQL 2005:

there is 2005, 2005 compact edition (ENU), and native client. Remove all of these?

There is also an instance of MSSMLBIZ database engine.
