The history detail string contains a lot of characters in my reports

Hi,

I use ACTREADER to pull out the data from ACT!. I've made a report which shows meeting summaries, which is contained in the table

TBL_HISTORY."DETAILS"

The problem is that this contains strings looking like

{\rtf1\fbidis\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0\fswiss\fprq2\fcharset0 Arial;}{\f1\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}
{\colortbl ;\red31\green73\blue125;\red0\green0\blue255;}
\viewkind4\uc1\pard\ltrpar\cf1\lang2057\f0\fs20 TEST TEST TEST \par
\par
TEST TEST TEST \par
.......\par
\par
\cf0 What to do, what to do?

}

It is pretty impossible just to show the text using either java or sql, therefore I turn to you.

Why is all these characters contained in the table? Is there another table containing just the text I'm looking for?

The history content is Rich Text formatted. Is it possible to have your report display the history data in rich text format?

If not you could consider using regular expressions to strip the formatting.

Re: The history detail string contains a lot of characters in my reports

We get the extraneous characters when generating reports from within ACT (eg Reports-Notes/History) as in the sample below. Is there no way to suppress these characters?

{\rtf Subject: Dial-in info for 1:30pm call\par Bill Long
\ansi\ansicpg1252\deff0\deflang1033{\fonttbl{\f0
\fnil\fcharset0 Microsoft Sans Serif;}}
\viewkind4\uc1\pard\f0\fs17 All,\par

Here is the dial-in information for our call today.\par

Thanks

I'd suggest using the OLEDB 2.0 Reporting provider in lieu of the Act Reader, this will return the data for you in a more usable format. The other options as stated already is to display the data in RTF format or parse out the formatting.

We get the exact same thing in the notes field about twice a month. This happens suddenly, with no rhyme or reason and only through the browser. The only known resolution is to restart the server. Another annoyance we've had to just live with.
