Is this a network installation or local? Does it happen for all users or just one?

Then try opening a local database like the ACT! Demo database and see if that's slow opening.

Then you have a network or server problem. I wiould start with the server configuration mainly RAM and hard drove speed.

It does not matter if I open our database over the network or locally on the server, it is the same speed.
Our database is not that big, maybe 2,500 contacts.

What are your server specs and are you running Exchange server on the same box?
