Sync not working

I am in a home office using two computers each with a remote data-base. Each is running ActSagePremium for Workgroups (ST Edition) Version 9.0.1.162 Hotfix 1. We sync both using a VPN. One works, the other hangs up on "Initializing Server". We have tried loading a new database and reloading ACT. We have tried starting without loading the firewall. Does anyone have any ideas on what to try?

Re: Sync not working - Mystery

Both computers can ping the server. Both can connect to the server and download files through the VPN.

Re: Sync not working - Mystery

Can both computers ping the server machine name as well as the IP?
This is important as VPN sometimes loses the WINS broadcast of the machine name

Can you also try (from cmd prompt on both machines):

Telnet ServerName 65100

Do you get the same result?

You might also try the trouble shooting tips in this articles from the ACT! Knowledge Base:

Also check the system time is the same on both systems and the version of ACT! is the same

Re: Sync not working - Mystery

Can anyone tell me if this issue was ever resolved?  I am having the same issue on syncing a remote computer using VPN, except the sync hangs on the message "Synchronizing Files."

This is ACT! by Sage Premium for Workgroups 2007

The TELNET tests described in this thread pass successfully.

I have created a Windows Firewall Exception Rule for the proper TCP port that I am using.

The computer connect and pass the "Initial Handshake" successfully.

I have confirmed the client and the server are on the same versions of ACT! with same hotfixes.

The funny thing is, the very first time we remotely sync'd this database via the VPN it worked fine.
