Sync Service Not Starting

The Sync Service on one of our workstations doesn't start, I get the following error message in the Event Log: The ACT! Network Sync Service service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. I was reading through some other posts that had similar errors, should I install 10.0.1 to fix this issue? I kept the standard port and have not enabled the Windows Firewall. Thanks

Why are you running the sync service on a workstation?
 
Install 10.01 anyway, it fixes quite a few things.

I guess I assumed that I needed it for scheduled sync's to work. I tried scheduling a sync and it never ran. The only way for me to sync is run it manually. I did upgrade to 10.01. And, like another post on this board, I don't see any Act Icons in Outlook (but I can post that in a separate discussion). Thanks for your help. Ray

Do you mean the ACT! Scheduler or the Sync Service?
 
You only need the Sync Service running on the server
