Sync Remote Database From Inside Network

We have "Network Sync" successfully syncing Remote Databases.

We have "Application Sync" successfully syncing internal (LAN) users.

However, we're unable to sync a "Remote Database" while inside our LAN.

I receive the "Sync Result" error message when we try: "ACT! is unable to connect to the sync server..."

Is it even possible to sync a "Remote Database" while inside the LAN?

Please let me know.

Re: Sync Remote Database From Inside Network

This is probably a firewall/router issue.  Yes, you can sync a remote database from inside the LAN, but if it's looking for an external IP address, that IP address might not exist inside the LAN.  Try changing it to sync with the server name instead.

Another good option is to sync to something like sync.yourcompany.com then use port forwarding.  If you are not an IT person, you will probably want to get someone from IT to do this for you.

Re: Sync Remote Database From Inside Network

Hey Michael,

Changing the IP address to the machine name worked.  Thanks for the help.

As for syncing to sync.yourcompany.com -

Would I use a "new" static ip (in addition to the server and firewall static ip's) with reverse DNS pointing to sync.yourcompany.com?

Thanks again for the help.  Chris

Re: Sync Remote Database From Inside Network

Another question ... why are you using Application Sync at all?

AS needs ACT! to be open on the server

You should either used the shared copy on the database for LAN users... or have them use the same Network Sync

I believe I incorrectly referred to "Shared Copy" as "Application Sharing"
