Kind of a rare one, but a potential problem nonetheless and simple to reproduce. Create one or more custom activity types than save an empty copy of the database. Now try to edit or use the custom types in the new empty copy. You will find you can use them when scheduling activities but you clearing the activity won't create a history...

I'm trying to reproduce your issue, but I'm getting history created from custom activities in an empty copy. These are the steps I took in ACT! 2011 SP1:
- created new database
- added a couple of contacts and 2 new activity types
- created empty copy of db
- opened empty copy > created activities with custom types
- cleared them and history was recorded
What version of ACT! are you running?
Was your database updated from a previous version of ACT!?

You switched two steps.
1. Create one or more custom activity types.
2. NOW save an empty copy
3. try to use or modify the custom type(s) in the newly made empty copy.

No I have not updated to sp1 I"m using 13.0.401.0, Hot Fix 2. I take it you have been unable to reproduce even when you follow the steps in the correct order?
