is it possible to connect sage act premium 2011 to a sql database that's running off a server and insert information to it through act? Also is it possible to convert sage act databases into SQL database? Thank you.

ACT! requires its own specifically-named instance of SQL, whether standard or express. This becomes a 'locked down' instance of SQL with a secure sa password that we don't have access to under normal conditions. Sage does make the sa password and a 'reader' password available within certain conditions, but it is never to enter data directly into the database.
Here is a link to how to install SQL specifically for ACT!: http://bit.ly/emuuZV . If it's not the right version of SQL or ACT!, go to the bottom of the article and there are links to other combinations of ACT! and SQL versions.
All data must be entered through the User Interface, whether typed or imported, or by using one of several third-party import tools which use the ACT! SDK to ensure the data adheres to the ACT! schema and that security and synchronization integrity are maintained.
If you entered the data yourself directly into SQL, you wouldn't know what add'l tables have to be updated, basically corrupting the database.
