SQL Error while performing Act Diag: PRC_MAINT_CHECKUPDB:CHECKDB

We're running ACT! by Sage Premium 2009 (11.0) Version 11.0.0.367.

We have a database with about 6000 contacts and approx 20 users are actually using the database.

Once every 3 months we perform regular maintenance on the database by locking the database and performing the Actdiag 'check database' function.

Normally no errors occur, leaving us with the happy idea the database is tip top.

However, today the following error occurred in both the CHECKING and the REPAIRING of the database with Act Diag.

Error

We have searched for any clues on this error, but this error is not described in any Act related forum or knowlegdebase.

While the database still appears to behave ok, we are seeking any helpfull comments on the above situation.

Please note: the above error occurs when doing the Check database and repair database from within Act Diag. When using the check en repair database function from within Act itself, there is no error.

Any help or insights appreciated!

This may be a SQL error.  First try detaching the database from within ActDiag, then stopping/starting the SQL service, the reattaching the database (just open the database in ACT).  I this fails, then backup the database, restore as on another ACT! machine and run ActDiag check and repair on the database.  See if you get the same error on another machine.

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Rene, the errors point to some degree of physical SQL Server database corruption - specifically somewhere in the index management catalogs.

I recommend three options for you:

1.  try to restore (maybe a Restore As) the latest backup - prior to the errors appearing.  If you have such a good working backup without errors, I would proceed with that.

2.  contact our Tech Support group which can have your database looked at by our Database Services group.

3.  contact Microsoft support directly - they would also likely have you send your database to them and perform some very low-level repairs in the PSS group.

Re: SQL Error while performing Act Diag: PRC_MAINT_CHECKUPDB:CHECKDB

The trick was indeed to

1. Detach in Act Diag

2. Open the database again in Act program (on server).

3. The database was 'updated' while being opened

4. Closed the database again

5. Did the Act diag repair option.

All errors are gone!

Help was very much appreciated, guys!

Such situation may be resolved due to sql repair. The program owns some important features. It works under any software configuration of your system. The utility can't modify source data during restoration.
