In an attempt to tidy up my ACT! 2012 premier database I deleted activities more than 14 days old. This deleted all activities past, present and future. I have since restored them from a backup. I tried again on a different remote database with the same result.
What have I done wrong?

What was the method you used to delete these activities? Please list your steps.
Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Here's the process
Tools>Remove Old Data
Check "Cleared activities older than 14 days"
Message says "may take a long time etc "old data to remove: cleared activities 354"
"purge complete message". Would you like to reindex the database?
Result: There are no activities in the tasks list or calendar for any of the users.
Any ideas why?
