Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

[ Edited ]

For our purposes the data / address material stored within Act is completely different from that

stored in Outlook. Being a wholesaler our Act DB contains mainly 99% prospects and 1% "real" customers,

Outlook is used for internal eMail mainly.

---> ACT 11 (2009) ST US version,  Outlook 2007 US version

Our intentionally plan for using Outlook with Act was to allow

Outlook to behave as transport for emails prepared from within Act only

NO Outlook pushing eMails to ACT contact histories

NO Outlook updating eMail and Calendar entries in ACT

NO need to use ACT addressbooks from within Outlook

ACT shall be able to use Outlook as transport to send to eMail recipients selected from within ACT

ACT shall be able to push 14 days of calendar entries into users Outlook calendar (ONE WAY)

That was configured in the first rollout as planned using only the Quick Start (recommended) entries.

Unfortunately an external ACT trainer held a class with several people from our sales force and

(without asking for permission first) showed and installed for those users the full set of Outlook addons

(Attach to ACT, Create contact, etc).

How can I remove that functionality from Outlook without de-&re-install ACT fully?

I have tried to do this with the ACT Quick Start procedure which does only half of the job

removing the ACT functionality but I still have the stuff activated and shown in Outlook

(also the Act.Outlook background service is running unwanted) and Outlook is now totally slow.

Thanks for a quick help!

In ACT! 2009, you set the options for Outlook integration from ACT! - Tool | Preferences | Email

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

Hi Mike,

thanks for the feedback.

I have already tried to set (shut-off) the eMail Features from ACT but

it seems that the installs and registry keys from the first install are kept

and in Outlook options I can still see the "Act Integration" addon.

Somewhere in the ACT Knowledgebase I found an article listing some 50+ registry

entries and "inproc32-blabla" that ACT installs for usage with Outlook and keeping

those standing around unused will not help to get the system back to usual speed...

I would prefer a real "clean-up" guideline

as I would like to "root out" all not necessary ACT stuff from Outlook completely

(I assume that those features are the reasons currently slowing down Outlook).

Thanks and best regards,

But, if you remove it all, you won't be able to send emails from ACT!... I thought you just wanted to stop the history?

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

Hi Mike,

I would like to first "remove all" (to ensure and test that Outlook is clean again).

In the next step I would run ACT "Quick Start" again to install only the really necessary DLLs and features.

Otherwise I would carry all kind of unnecessary SW garbage around on the concerned PCs for a long time.

They just have been installed and will be in service the next three years, no intention to start off with crappy install.

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

I don't think there is a way to "remove all" - it's installed when ACT! is installed, not during the Quick Start.

It's only set up during the QS

If you remove the ACT! Address Book from Outlook, ten, in ACT! Tools | Preferences, remove the check box for Outlook, it shouldn't be used.

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

Hi Mike,

I recall you have quoted the Windows Software Cleanup tool elsewhere in another thread.

Do you think that tool can be used to fully clean out the Act addons build into Outlook?

Act is for us only sub-priority application used by "some" teammembers, where Outlook

is our bread-and-butter tool used by everybody (so company policies strictly say NO to any addons).

I just want to spare me the nightmare of killing all ACT installations once again or even worse

rebuild all concerned machines from a fresh unmolested image once again to get a clean Outlook setup.

best regards,

Martin

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

Ok... don't blame me if it has issues - I normally test my solutions before posting, but not sure what result you want, I haven't with this one :-)

First remove Outlook from the Tool | Preferences | Email

Then stop it starting by removing the Act.Outlook.Service keyin Regedit from:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Then in Outlook 2007

Tools | Trust Centre

Add-ins

At the Bottom - Manage COM Add-Ins - Go

Remove the ACT! Outlook Addin

You could try one at a time and see what happens...

Thanks, Mike...

I will give it a try and see if that solves my Outlook trouble.

Re: Remove from Outlook the specific Act addons

I don't know if these will work:

ACT shall be able to use Outlook as transport to send to eMail recipients selected from within ACT

ACT shall be able to push 14 days of calendar entries into users Outlook calendar (ONE WAY)

Pretty sure the calendar sync would need the Add-in and possibly the email also
