We use Office 2016 32 bit with Act Premium, on several workstations. We have templates that are set up to merge to Word. After installing the June 2020 Windows 10 cumulative update (KB4560960) one of our merge documents now crashes Word every time on most computers with the update, when trying to print the document. Once I force-close Word after it crashes, and go try again in Act, I get this error message:
"Unable to cast Com object of type 'Microsoft.Office.interop.Word.ApplicationClass' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word._Application'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface..."
If I uninstall the June 2020 cumulative update on the workstation, this problematic file will successfully print again.
I thought that perhaps this file got corrupted but the same behavior is seen from the same file restored from a Feb 2019 backup. It's something to do with this Windows update.
Has anyone else experienced any issues with the June 2020 Windows update and Act office integration? I need to find some workaround because I can't delay windows security updates indefinitely. Should we just recreate the template file?
Would I have better luck using Office 2019 64bit? I heard that 64bit versions of office don't work with Act office integration.
- Version of Act! you are using:
On Windows 10 workstations: Act Premium 126.96.36.199 , Update 4
On Windows 2016 Server: Act Premium Web 188.8.131.52 , Update 4
- If the issue involves Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word , Excel), state the version of Office you are using
Office 2016 32bit
- Is your database on your local machine (private database) or is it being shared from a server (shared database)?
Shared from a server.
- Operating system you have Act! installed on (i.e., Windows 7, Windows 8)
Windows 10 on the workstations. Windows Server 2016 on the Act server.

This is resolved. The document had an extremely hi-res 2400 dpi logo on it, which is what was causing MS Word to crash for Windows 10 computers on the June 2020 cumulative update. If you have any Act templates crashing Word when printing, check the file size. This one was 1.3mb when the rest were 200kb.
