Product Update Popup

I upgraded to the latest version of ACT! V.20 release 7.  I continue to get a popup telling me there is a new version available.  Any way to get rid of it?

To download this UPDATE 7 (After installing Service Pack 1) for Act! Pro V20 CLICK HERE

If you are the only user - Do not forget to make a backup copy of your database DAILY (Use the BROWSE option to place this backup in your Folder Documents) and place a copy of that ZIP file in a USB memory or external disk for more security   (File menu - Backup - Database)

Re: Product Update Popup

Thank you but the problem is I have downloaded and installed

Act! Premium (Web) Version 20.1.120.0, Update 7

The problem is that every time I launch ACT! now, the popup says there is a new update available.

Re: Product Update Popup

Follow the steps below to disable the automatic check for updates option:

  1. Launch ACT!. - In the Main Icon of Act! on your desk - right click - Run as Administrator
  2. Click the Tools menu, and then click Preferences. The Preferences dialog box appears.

3. Under the Notifications OR Startup Tab, clear the Automatically check for updates every option (as illustrated above).

4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

[ Edited ]

Same problem here in Germany on about 20 client PCs!

Any time ACT! is restarted, the popup shows up ALTHOUGH Update7 was installed properly.

Disabling the notification is NOT an option, as there are too many PCs afflicted (count is increasing every minute, unnecessary support calls piling up in my queue).

Re: Product Update Popup

Hello Melville,

This is something we have seen but is not in all installs and has not effected the database operations and so has not yet been flagged as a defect.

If you could contact us with the system information from One or Two machines, so we can compare that to a machine that is not getting the same issue, that would be very useful.

It would be useful to know:
Full Act version
Full Windows version
What access level the Act user has
What access level the Windows user has
What AV/Firewall is present (inc versions)
Where you applied the update from? (downloaded and applied separately, or used the "Act notifications" and updated through there)
And any other useful information.
Screen shots would not be needed.

For the sake of testing could you try:
Clearing Local Act Prefs
Uninstall and reinstall Act (Should auto apply latest update)

I would recommend sending that in to us Via email.

We look forward to your email

Re: Product Update Popup

Quickest way to obtain that info is from my test system:

Full Act version

- 20.1 PREM WEB German update 7
Full Windows version

- WIN 8.1
What access level the Act user has

- Chris Huffman, ADMIN (it's the Demo DB...)
What access level the Windows user has

ADMIN
What AV/Firewall is present (inc versions)

- Windows Defender

          Antimalware-Clientversion: 4.10.209.0

          Modulversion: 1.1.15100.1

          Virendefinition: 1.273.438.0

Where you applied the update from? (downloaded and applied separately, or used the "Act notifications" and updated through there)

- Downloaded and updated manually.

No idea what you mean by"..sending that in to us Via email."

Re: Product Update Popup

Hi Andy

Seems to be anyone who is not an ACT administrator. (And possibly who does not have windows administrator rights on their machine.)

Re: Product Update Popup

Uninstalling and re-installing ACT! 20.1 incl. Update7 solves the problem for me, but is not a general solution.
