I've been following the same process for ipomrting data into my ACT! database since i started using it 6 years ago and recently, for whatever reason it's no longer working.
The process i follow is to export a CSV from Paypal, remove my payments and save as an Excel file. I have Excel 2013, this has worked fine as long as i can remember.
I go into ACT!
File - Import
Click next past the welcome screen
Change file type to Excel
Select the file i want to import, foiund on the desktop (i have admin rights on my high spec dekstop)
No user name required
Click contact records - next
Custom import - next
Leave the import first record field unticked, click next
All records are shown in the contact map screen - in this case, today it is 72
Clcik clear map - load map and select the mapping file I have always used, click next
If source records match then merge (i tried
do not change just before posting this with no joy)
If source records dont match - Add
Tick confirm each match - then click next
Confirm import screen says - all fields are compatible
It then says "Preparing to Import" for about 30 seconds
Import complete when i click on View import log "Act! did not encounter any errors merging records."
Sort by Create date - nothing new added in
Have also clicked on View - All contacts to make sure nothing is hoidden in a lookup
I'm at a loss without any warning of why it might not have worked - anyone else had this and fixed it?
