Problem Restoring a database

Hi All

I have backed up an Act! v17 Premium database. Using File>Restore as on a v20 Premium machine get this error

Act.Data.ActDb. ActDbException.Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'ORIGIN_SYNCDBID'

Not seen this before. Any clues?

Tried restoring the database to a different folder.

Re: Problem Restoring a database

First test:

Try to restore on the v17 machine where the backup originates from. Make sure to use RESTORE AS and restore under a different name and in a different place on that machine.

If that fails as well, try "save copy as.." from the live database.

Open the copy and perform a database maintenance. If that goes ok , make a backup of the copy and start from the beginning.

Re: Problem Restoring a database

Interesting - cannot make a full copy or empty copy of the original database. Errors out both times. (same error).

Performed basic maintenance - same issue.

Could not restore backup on original machine - same error.

Re: Problem Restoring a database

The error message hints to some problem with synchronisation.

Is the database a "publisher database" and is there a synchronisation in use?

If not ( pls check thoroughly before the next step!), go into the settings and switch the synch OFF.

Retry maintenance.

If there is an active remote database and the a.m. is not feasible: try to create  a backup of the remote DB.

Then start procedure from step 1.

Re: Problem Restoring a database

Hi

Just to update - I passed the restore through v18 Premium and then v20 and it worked!
