I have a database of our clients and want to print out a referral list showing only the first name and last initial of the last name. Is it possible to have the report print out the first initial of the last name? (Using ACT 184.108.40.2067). THANKS!

Yes. It requires the use of a custom field and an embedded Visual Basic program script.

If this is a one-time event, it would be easy to export the contact list (customized with First and Last Name fields) to Excel, then use the 'LEFT' function within Excel to return the 1st character of the Last Name field... If this report will be produced on a regular on-going basis, you may want an actual ACT! report (as Roy describes).

Thanks Greg: Since the referral lists update all the time with new clients, it would be preferable to have the VB script in ACT! Would the LEFT function work in the ACT! report?

Greg: Actually, it did work. My custom field expression: FirstName1+" "+(LEFT(LastName1,1))+"." produced first name, space, last initial followed by a period. Thanks Roy and Greg for your help!
