We are a manufacturer and we need a "database" solution to track our products way beyond the sales stage. Is ACT! really a suitable candidate for this scenario? Should we really invest the time in customizing ACT! to meet this need or is there a better solution out there?
As a third option, and my personal tendency, we could just create a custom solution from scratch. (We are fortunate enough to have a very strong in-house development team.)
Please share your thoughts. They are all greatly appreciated.

With ACT! 2010 the Opportunities were made a separate entity similar to Groups and Companies. Among other thins you now have in the opportunities for Notes, History, Activities, etc. You can now add a fields to the opportunity and product tables. I believe that it would be possible to add custom tables to the opportunity entity.
