Post-Sales Product Management?

Hello Community,

 

We are a manufacturer and we need a "database" solution to track our products way beyond the sales stage.  Is ACT! really a suitable candidate for this scenario?  Should we really invest the time in customizing ACT! to meet this need or is there a better solution out there? 

As a third option, and my personal tendency, we could just create a custom solution from scratch. (We are fortunate enough to have a very strong in-house development team.)

 

Please share your thoughts.  They are all greatly appreciated.

Two options: ACT! 2010 greatly expands the opportunities capability and then may be the answer. Second option, the ACT! database supports custom additional tables through the SDK. You could do the necessary programming however there are at least four add ons that simplify the creation and maintenance of custom tables.

With ACT! 2010 the Opportunities were made a separate entity similar to Groups and Companies. Among other thins you now have in the opportunities for Notes, History, Activities, etc. You can now add a fields to the opportunity  and product tables. I believe that it would be possible to add custom tables to the opportunity entity.
