Thanks for the reply and in a perfect world that is correct, but we have heard from some of our sales staf that some of the database has been compromised and leads loaded by a certtain user have been changed to private access

Actually you might be able to contact Sage support and have them help. Internally, using SQL management studio and either the Windows administrator logon or the SA password for the ACT database it's possible to find records that have been flagged as Private. That field can be changed from Private to Public. This is pretty technical stuff which is why I'm suggesting either call
Tech Support or an ACT certified Consultant. The act.com site can help you get to either support or find a consultant.

And FYI remember if you are not the record manager for a contact and you make the contact private you won't be able to see the contact you just made private. The private contact will only be seen by the record manager.
