Migration of ACT 2007 (9.0) to a new server

We will be moving our main database to a new server.

Currently the SQL version is 2005.

Can we use a new version of SQL or do we need to un-install the SQL and use SQL Server 2005 which came with the original install disks?

Also, once the database is migrated do we need to create and redistribute new remote databases to our users?

thank you for your assistance.

So your new server has a preexisting SQL 2005 installation?  If so, what is the edition of SQL 2005 (Standard, Enterprise, Developer, etc.).

Also, just to confirm that you are using ACT! for Windows Premium edition?

thanks

Hi Mathew,

The new server has SQL 2008.

Yes, Act for Windows Preium edition - work groups.

The version of ACT! that you are using has not been tested with SQL 2008.

What you could do is install your ACT! 2007 Premium on this machine, as the 2 different SQL Editions can live side by side, but this is completely up to you / your business rules.

The latest version of ACT! 2010 Premium does have the ability use SQL 2008 as the backend database, so if you would want to use SQL 2008, perhaps consider an ACT! upgrade.

thanks
