Migrate/Upgrade ACT! 2005 (7.0) to ACT! 2011

We currently have ACT! 7.0 Installed on a workstation.  We now have a new file server with Windows 2008, and an upgrade to ACT! 2011.  What would be the procedure to migrate the data and install ACT 2011 on the new server?  Are there any documents that describe this type of procedure?

Thanks.

Hello vjones,

Welcome to the Sage ACT! Community. In regards to your question, take a look at the following Knowledgebase articles:

KB 27014

KB 26750

In addition, I would advise removing ACT! 2007 and SQL 2005 from the workstation, rebooting, then installing ACT! 2011. If you just purchased ACT! 2011 or have a support contract, you can also call ACT! Technical Support for assistance with the upgrade/install.

That looks helpful regarding the upgrade process, but in this case, we also want the new Act installation to be on another machine.

Thanks

Instructions for a new installation of ACT! 2011 can be found in KB Article 26728 (Pro) or KB Article 26729 (Premium).

How do we get our old data into the new installation?

Thanks.

If your old database is in ACT 2005 (v7) format, then you would just open the database in ACT! 2011 on your server (or whatever machine will be hosting the database) and it will convert.
