Merging local database with main database, then converting to remote db w/sync

I have a user who has been working off of a local database on their laptop, independently from our main database.  We would like to convert this user to a remote database that could then synch with the main server database.  What is the best procedure to do this?  My impression is that we need to export their local database to the main database, then create a sync set and remote database that will bring all of their data back onto their laptop, in the process adding the ability to synchronize their data to the server.  Is this accurate?  Is there a KB article or procedure for doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Merging local database with main database, then converting to remote db w/sync

Your general process is correct: export/import data from independent database into the main database, create sync set and remote from the main database, then restore the remote database on the laptop.

Here are articles to assist with the steps:

Importing database to database: KB Article 17539

How to create a remote database: KB Article 14116

Note: If custom fields have been added to the laptop database, you will want to create them in the main database before attempting the import so the data will have an identical field to map into.
