Making the date automatically appear in the template of an ACT Word document - how do I do this?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I'm creating a Word template in ACT and am trying to have the date automatically appear in the template.

There are instructions on how to do this on this web page:

http://kb.act.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11845/~/how-to-create-and-edit-act!-mail-merge-and-letter-...

However, the instructions on this page are for the good old days when Microsoft Word had menus, and when finding the Tools > Options > View > Formatting path was easy and quick.

Does anyone know a short cut for having the date appear automatically in an ACT Word template?

I was hoping that there is a tag I could enter, like the one below:

e.g.

<Address 1>

Something like this perhaps:

<Date>

Thanks.

Grant.

Hi Grantmillar,

As you've alluded to - this feature is a part of Microsoft Word.

In Office 2016 you can add a date field like so:

Insert > Quick Parts > Field

add field to word1.png

Select Date Field and desired format from there

add fields to word2.png

However, obviously this may differ in other versions of Word.

Hope this is some help.

Re: Making the date automatically appear in the template of an ACT Word document - how do I do this?

Hi Jon,

Thanks for your very helpful reply.

I've just followed your menu path and have entered the date info into the ACT Word template that I'm working on. I'm using Word 2013.

I'll try creating a letter from this ACT Word template tomorrow and will see how it goes. If it automatically enters 11 October 2016 into the letter tomorrow, then I'll know that it's worked.

Regards,
Grant.

Hi Jon,

I just created a document from the ACT Word template that I created yesterday, and it all worked perfectly - with the correct date automatically appearing in the Word document that I created via the Word template.

Thanks for the excellent instructions.

Grant.
