New user, and first time poster please be nice.
Version: Premium 2012 Version 220.127.116.11
Master database location: On our shared drive
Users: about 10 which they use ACT off the network and then sync back later (their on the road all the time)
If i'm making changes (adding new fields for example) on a demo datbase which is local on my PC it's nice and fast. Now I know what i want to do i tried connecting to the Master database to make the changes global for everyone. When i connect to our Master databse to make changes it is horribly slow. So slow it takes about 20 - 30 seconds for a mouse click to register.
Is there any other option for making chnages on the master database? Can i import changes somehow?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

when you make a change on your masterdatabase, it has to insert the field into the database, this can take a while.
there are a lot of things you can do to speedup the database on your Server. i did create a Help document that shows all the reasons i did come across why a database may be slow.

There is a lot happening when a field is created in Act! particularly around access control across all the records in the database.
best to do it on the server itself. On top of that with your sync setup the sync logs have to be updated so that changes to the Act! schema (the underlying structure) are synchronised out . Comparing to the 230 or so demo record database that has no access control setup and no sync setup is not a relevant comparison. If you are creating a lot of fields in your database there will also be the creation of spill-over tables to accomodate the large number of fields. It is best to create all your fields, as best you can, before synchronisation is setup and before sync sets are created.
