Major Problems with Database

[ Edited ]

OK, so firstly you're going to read this and think {edited-word filter} but this is really happening and I cannot think why or how.

I'm migrating a db from 6 to 10 and in the process I have backed up the 6 into a zip and moved it to my new server where I've converted it.

This is the ONLY time I've touched the live 6 db.

Since I've done this though the MD is complaining that I've corrupted his db with the Act demo db. I can't deny that the act demo db names are now part of his db but also I can't say for sure that they weren't there before because I'm a consultant new to his company!

So in short, I've got 2 dbs on 2 physically seperate servers and the live db isn't touched by me at all but the demo db and their db are mixed.

It's a long shot but has anyone heard of anything even remotely like this happening? Smiley Sad

Cheers

Will

Re: Major Problems with Database

I'll answer this one myself!!

Just sorted out the problem. It appears that one of their employees decided it was a good idea to import the demo database into the their live db.

Clueless. But then to keep quiet about it and let the consultant take the crap...

Oh well, all's well that ends well

Sorry to trouble you all!

As a tip, you might have been able to see this by looking at the Record Manager field for the added contacts... they would show as the user who added them :-)

Cheers Mike, that's exactly how we found out!

On a seperate note, they use Side Act here. Do you know if this is add on software or just something that was done away with in Act! 10?

Re: Major Problems with Database

SideACT was an ACT! 6.0 tool that not enough users used... was dropped in 7.0

There are a few addons that provide similar functionality
