MS SQL Standard Licences

Scenario

 

My customer has 50-User Act! v18 Premium using MS SQL Standard on their Server.

 

Their IT department has told them they need to buy 50 SQL licences for their Act! user licences at a huge cost.

 

The MS SQL Standard is only installed on their Server.

 

Question

 

Is the above scenario correct and, if so, does every Act! user with SQL Standard have to now buy SQL licences for every Act! user licence?

 

I have always assumed that the SQL Express licences that come with Act! cover this requirement.

 

Has anyone any ideas about this?

If they are accessing the database over the network and consequently accessing the SQL Standard server then they need licenses.  If they are remotes and accessing a remote database then they can probably get away with just using Express.
