It sounds like you may have a damaged preferences file. To rebuild your preferences, use the alternate method to manually rebuild preferences found in the bottom part of KB Article 14770. In addition, make sure your DPI is set to 96 (normal). Instructions to change the DPI are in KB Article 26349. After making these changes, be sure to reboot your machine.
