Is Logging In to v18 Premium Web Still Painfully Slow?

Im just about to transition my database to the web based version from the desktop version and see some previous users posting that it takes almost 90 seconds to login to the web based version. Is this an ongoing issue with all users that use web premium version? How is the speed of the web version in general?

Any feedback on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Log-in time is slow up to 2 minutes at worst case, typically up to a minute. Once in responds well as it is only the initial handshake with a 3rd party program to do with licences that takes the time.

Is there a fix in the works for this initial login slowness? Seems crazy to me that it takes almost 2 minutes to confirm licensing.

In addition, can you set the amount of time that passes before it logs you out automatically or does it even log you out automatically? I would like to keep it running in the background indefinitely as only when I choose to logoff will it logoff. That would really resolve the login slowness issue for me.

Hi Jag,

In answer to your fist question, @Bob.Breeding recently posted in this thread on the subject.

Secondly, regarding session timeouts, this can be configured. Here's a couple Knowledgebase articles detailing how:

Do you have 110 users in a single database?

It's likely that with that many users it's simply a resource issue on the server causing the slowdown.

Do you know if you are using SQL Express or SQL Standard on the server?

Re: Is Logging In to v18 Premium Web Still Painfully Slow?

Here is something that really hurt one of my clients but only at initial login.  They upgraded from ACT 2012 to ACT v18.  Login time went from approx. 1 minute to 4-5 minutes.  After a week of misery and only the standard answers from Tech support, I found this KB Answer ID 35736.  This is a large database with a large number of users.  Cleaning up the TBL_PREFERENCE Table put login times down to 45 sec.

I copied the user database to my virtual machine to test this.  I used Microsoft SQL server Management Studio to clean up the preference table and it dramatically reduced login times.  I then took another copy of the database and  tried the Empty TBL_PREFERENCE Table.bat referenced in the KB and it caused problems where the database wouldn't open on my virtual machine.  I used Microsoft SQL server Management Studio on the client machine to clean up the table.

My understanding from the last conference is that this has been fixed in v20.
