ACT! 2009 v22.214.171.1247 on both machines
I can enter the ip address in my laptop and recieve a reply. But evertime I try to sync I get this error. I have 2 databases on 2 machines and it is only doing this on one primary database machine. The gateway is set up the same for both ip addresses.
Sync error - "....Unable to connect to sync server....."
not sure where to look.

From the client machine, open Internet Explorer and type in http://<Server Public IP>. If you receive unable to connect or timeout, then either router, IIS or FW is blocking and you'll need to configure those properly.
Another option is to setup Network Sync across the internet. It only involves setting up port forwarding and doesn't involve IIS.
