Importing contacts with multiple dropdown lists

Is there a way to import contacts into a database that has an id/status field, for example, with a multiple-select dropdown list and not erase what is already entered?  For example, the ID Status says 2010 conference.  Then when they attend the 2011 conference, they want to see both entries.  Thanks, Brenda

Re: Importing contacts with multiple dropdown lists

Hi Brenda,
Unfortunately the import does not work that way. ACT! sees the data in the dropdown field as a single string, regardless if it is multi-select or not. So the import will replace the entire string (if you choose the replace merge option). I think one of the import partner softwares can parse out the field, maybe OakMerge or ITImport, not sure. Seemed to recall reading that somewhere.

Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

What are you importing from?
Do you have some sort of unique match field?

Is there any other data you want to import or just to append the extra data to the ID/Status field?

Re: Importing contacts with multiple dropdown lists

It is a list of attendees at different conferences.  So they want to know that the contacts went to 4 conferences last year, 3 this year, etc.  And they don't  want that data lost, which it will be if ACT! is in charge of the import.  Found out that Swiss Army Knife will do that.  Thanks, Brenda

Yeah, you need a third-party import ... I use itImport to do stuff like that
