IP Adress - PAD File

Question, is it possible to use the IP address of the server in the PAD file of the user's computer to connect to the database?

The issue is that the name of the server there are communication problems, but not with the IP address

Re: IP Adress - PAD File

Exactly as Andreas say, yes this is definitely possible - and for some configurations it can even be recommended.

However, unless your IP addresses are written in stone, and you're certain they won't change - there's always the possibility of an IP address being reassigned to a different machine.

Usually Windows can resolve the UNC path, but there are circumstances where this isn't possible.

YES.

BUT: you will probably encounter other problems on that system, as there seems to be something "generally" wrong.

Try to find the underlying reason and you will sleep better.

If there are issues with resolving a machine name with an IP and you can't resolve it or want a quick fix whilst finding what is causing the issue then I would add the ip and machine name to the host file of the affected machines.
