IE8 and ACT 2009 Premium For Web

I know there are some issues where we have to run IE8 in compatibility mode to use ACT 2009 Premium for Web.  I can do this from each browser and ACT does work fine.  However I wanted to set this up so the web server tells the browser to use compatibility mode.  I followed these instructions for IIS6 http://kb.sagesoftwareonline.com/cgi-bin/sagesoftwareonline.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2555... and it is not working for me.

I looked at the Microsoft instructions located at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968499 and there is an extra part talking about modifying the web.config file that is not included in your instructions.  This info is below.  Do I need to do this and if so do I just modify the web.config in the APFW directory?

Thanks,

PersonTX

Add the custom HTTP response header in the Web.config file

To add this header to the Web.config file, create or revise the Web.config file as follows.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
  <configuration>
     <system.webServer>
           <httpProtocol>
               <customHeaders>
                    <clear />
                    <add name="X-UA-Compatible" value="IE=EmulateIE7" />
               </customHeaders>
           </httpProtocol>
     </system.webServer>
</configuration>

Note Add this new or revised Web.config file to each Web directory in which you want to use compatibility mode.

Re: IE8 and ACT 2009 Premium For Web

Hello PersonTX,

This is good information...thank you for bringing this up. We will review that KB article and update accordingly. It looks like we need separate instructions for IIS 7 and IIS 6.

So I take it I do need to modify the web.config file?  Do I just need to modify the web.config in the APFW folder?  Also, where do I add the extra information in the file?

Thanks,

PersonTX

Re: IE8 and ACT 2009 Premium For Web

Judging by the top line, it looks like it should go at the top of the config file. And I would say that you need to add that to the web.config files for the three virtual directories used by ACT! for Web:

APFW

APFWOutlookSrvc

AFWValidationSrvc

If using ACT! for Web 2010, this would also include the "APFWMailMergeSrvc" virtual diectory.
