How to remove the #1 prefix for phone dialing

Our users like to have there ACT Contacts synced to there Outlook Contacts so they can utilize the Caller ID on there blackberries. However when doing the sync via ACT or Handheld contact it brings over the 1-555-555-5555. If the user places a call the name shows up. When called the Name will not appear because the incoming number is 555-555-5555. How do i disable the 1 prefix?

Thanks,

This sounds like you have the option for showing the Country Code enabled.  To disable it: go to Tools > select Preferences > on General tab > first option at the top - uncheck 'Always display Country Code in Phone fields'.

Re: How to remove the #1 prefix for phone dialing

Greg,

That option was already unchecked. So every time I export or sync to outlook the 1+ the number shows up. Which does no good for Caller ID on Blackberry. Knowing the name of the caller is important and displays a level of professionalism know how to answer the call.

Thanks for your help,

Re: How to remove the #1 prefix for phone dialing

Since that option was unchecked, it must be that you have selected a format for the phone fields that puts the '1' in front of the number (this assumes you are not manually entering the '1').

To check your format: on a contact detail screen > left click on the box to the right of the phone field > this will display the current format being used for the field.  You can change the format for an individual contact by clicking on the drop-down box for Format and selecting a different format, or you  can change the Default format for all contacts/phone fields by clicking on 'Edit Formats'.

On the screen presented you will put a check mark next to the format you desire > then click OK to apply the change > then click OK to change the Format screen.

This will not change data that already exists in your phone fields, but there is a set of steps you can take to update them all.  For instructions on updating all of your phone field information visit this link: Replace phone field data for multiple contacts

Before making mass updates to your database, be sure that you have a current backup (File > Backup > Database).

Re: How to remove the #1 prefix for phone dialing

Actually... no need to change anything in ACT!

On the Blackberry, open the Phone app

Click the BB buttom to bring up the menu and select Options

Select Smart Dialing

Make sure the country code is correct (+1) and the national number length is 10

Then, if you sync from ACT! to HHC - all numbers (in North America) should have +1 - the BB smart dialing rules will know how to handle that
