How to remove "new product" from the opportunity product list

I only want one product in my dropdown - called bids.  However, I cannot get the default "new product" item off -- I deleted it from the dropdown list, but when I create a new opportunity, it comes back.  Thanks, Brenda

Re: How to remove "new product" from the opportunity product list

"New Product" is not actually an item on the dropdown list, it's more like a prompt to add a product if you do not choose one. Note, than once you choose a product or make a new one, you will not see "New Product" as an option in that line item again. In ACT! 2009 and earlier, a product is required so you must either add a new product or choose an existing one. This is not the case in ACT! 2010, as the Opportunity structure has been dramatically changed. Bottom line, you can't remove "New Product" as the default value in a new Opportunity in ACT! 2009 and earlier.
