How to change the Phone Number Format Automatically ???

Is there a way to automatically change the phen number format from " 000-000-0000 to (000) 000-0000 ???

Right now I am going through this manually, at this rate,.....ACT 2010 will be available. Thanks.

Click on thesquare button to the right of the Phone field, then click on the Edit Formats Button. Here you can select or add the formatting you require and apply it to every contact in that Country in the database. Note that this is done on a country by country basis.

 

Should save a lot of clicking!

   Thanks for the reply. I have tried this method but it seems that it doesnt apply to all other contacts. Am I doing something wrong?

Mmm. A couple of things to watch out for.

 

Firstly, when you click the square button next to the phone field you get a window pop up where you can change the formatting.

This changes the phone formatting for that record. To make a global change you need to click the Edit Formats button and change the format there.

 

Secondly, the phone formats are country specific. Each country can have its own telephone number format. So for each record ACT takes a look at what's in the country field and formats the phone number accordingly. Now, you are not expected to have a Country entry in every field; ACT assumes that if there's nothing in the country field the contact is in the same country as you. Therefore, it is important that you have something in the Country field in your record (lookup My Record). Same thing applies to other ACT users: they should also fill in the Country field in their own records. When you do this pick the country from the drop-down list; it needs to be exactly as ACT expects to see it. "USA" won't work; "United States of America" does work.

 

I have known the sysem to require a close and restart for changes to take.

    Thanks for the help. I have used the"Edit Button" and it works on all NEW phone number inputs. The existing contacts that have had the previous format, it does not convert automaitcally. UUHHGGGG.

Any idea why in a new install that little button next to the phone number field wouldn't be there?  Is it that I don't have a modem (that ability to install a dialer) on this machine?

Hello Robert,
From your prior posts it looks like you are using the ACT! for web database. It also looks like you have Firefox 4 as your browser. If accessing the web database through FF4, this may be what is causing the issue as FF4 is not yet supported by ACT! for Web. The currently supported browsers are IE 7, IE8, and Firefox 3.5 & 3.6.

As it turns out, it was screen resolution on my new machine, which is Win 7 Pro, 64-bit.  It was set to 125% and that was what was creating the problem - set it microscopic 100% and it works like a charm Smiley Sad
