I am having these same problems but am using Windows XP. When trying to set up a remote database I keep receiving the error message "Access to path <name> is denied.... would you like to create another database?"
We have set up our ACT Database on our network which is working fine and I am now attempting to set up a remote database on my laptop C drive from my laptop, but keep getting the above message error.
The file path name it is correct, I can access it and I have the correct permisions set up. Has anyone else encountered this problem using XP, does anyone have an ideas?

Sorry I think I'm a little slow on the uptake.
Are you saying that you have to be on the server itself (not accessing it from your local machine)to be able set up a remote database?

Thanks, I will try creating this way.
One more question, I need to set up 7 or 8 remote databases for the members of our sales team with Laptops, each member has different access levels ect. Do I need to set up a separate remote database on the server for each person and then transfer to their local drive or can I set up one remote database and send it to everyone?

You need one RDB per remote... they are unique
You should have a read of the knowledge base articles on setting up sync before doing it

Sorry to open an old thread, but I had a similar error creating remote DBs 'stream does not support writing'.
I was using RDP to remote to the server to create the DB.
Simply switching to console mode in RDP 'mstsc /console' did the trick..
