Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

Hi All,

I am trying to create a remote database, but I got an error message above.

We have 2 databases on the same machine (wins 2003), I am able to create one on the other database.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

The database may be in need of repair. Follow these steps:

- From the Publisher database, go to  Tools/Database Maintenance/Check & Repair....run the utility twice in a row

- Close ACT!

- From your Windows Start button, choose Run and type in actdiag

- When ACT! Diagnostics opens, click Databases then Database List

- From the list of databases, highlight the Publisher database, right-click on it, choose Database Rebuilds, then Rebuild Sync Objects

- Reopene ACT! and try creating a new remote database

Hi Greig,

Thanks for your help. I really do appreciate.

I gave it a go, but it still failed. Here it is the whole message:

Failed to create remote database <name>. Error creating objects Please contact the Administrator for more help. Would you like to create another remote database?

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

As a test, make a backup of the database, then restore it on another machine using "Restore As". Then see if you can create a remote from that restored backup.

[ Edited ]

Hi Greig,

I think this database is having a serious problem, now I cannot even back it up, the error message I got as below

Start Date/Time: 16/07/2009 8:00:00 PM
Database: Comm

User Name: Act Admin
Machine Name: \\10.3.3.17, 1057
Type of Event: Backup
Task Frequency: Daily, every weekday(M-F)
Result: Task Not Completed
Errors: Failed to log into the database. Write on "\\ACT-00\Comm-database files\Backup\\ACT-00_Comm_D20090716T200002.BAK" failed: 112(error not found)
BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
PRC_MAINT_BACKUPDB: ERROR EXECUTING DATABASE BACKUP STATEMENT
Backup Filename and Path: F:\ACT!\Backup\ACT! Comm.zip

I think I'd better tell you the whole story so that we can find a cause root for my current issue.

At the beginning, we had a vmware server that got ACT running with this database, and I wanted to move this database to the host OS (the same box) by backing up and restoring to the new location/ server, it was succesful.

We did schedule backup, but now I just realised that only 1 database has been backed up, and the problem one has not been backed up since the move.

just for testing, I opened vmware again, I was able to back up as well as create remote database fine with the same database on the vmware server.

I am in deep trouble now. Please help

Thanks in advance

Regards

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

Hi Greig,

I found another glitch. As you can see Machine name: 10.3.3.17. Althought I changed it to ACT-00 through actdiag. But it still displays as IP address.

And I need to correct my statement below "and the problem one has not been backed up since the move.", in fact the backup was successful once on 13-07-09. We moved the databases on 6-07-09, the other database has been backed up since then.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

Hi Greig,

Thought I'd keep you updated what I have found.

If vmware server is on, then the backup for both database would be fine. I had a closer look at View Tasklog taken from ACT server (ACT-00) as below. So there is something connecting between old server (vmware) and the new server (host OS) they are the same box.

Databases: Comm, Comm2

Servers: VMware (10.3.3.40, VM-01); ACT server (10.3.3.17, ACT-00) (again they are in the same box).

Really Sorry for long log.

Regards,

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

The VMWare environment may be corrupting the backup. Try physically moving the database from the VM environment to another environment (you may already tried this). The instructions for doing this are in KB Article 23392.

Re: Failed to create remote database. Error creating objects....

Thank you Greig for your help. it is OK now , I had to rename all files in VMware server.

One thing weird is that the server name still points to the vmware (VM-01\ACT7) it should be ACT-00\ACT7. Everything else seems alright Smiley Sad.
