Errors Creating Remote Database’s – Version 10.3.182.0

Hi there, needing some help as we are getting errors creating remote database’s, and I’m relatively new to ACT! So go easy on me please!

We have ACT! Premium 2008 (10.0) (ST Edition) Version 10.0.3.182, Hotfix 1 installed on our server, and are running remote databases on 3 users laptops. Everything went relatively ok in the initial install/setup/configuration of the remote databases (from the master on the server) and we have been using the 3 users remote databases successfully for about a month as guinea pig’s before rolling it out to 12 staff.

The problem occured we came to create remote databases (on the main db) for the remaining users to deploy ACT! we get the following error:

“Failed to create remote database <database name>. Could not load file or assembly 'Act.Data.Creation, Version=10.3.182.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=ebf6b2ff4d0a08aa' or one of its dependencies. Strong name validation failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8013141A) Please contact the administrator for more help. Would you like to create another remote database?”

All versions of the databases in use are the same, and all currently working correctly, updating sync etc, there have been no upgrades etc to the server, or changes on the server (MS Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition, SP1), and we are using the same method for creating the remote databases as we did for the first 3.

What I can’t understand is why we could create remote databases before, but cant now, when nothing has changed?? Help!

Thanks in advance

Re: Errors Creating Remote Database’s – Version 10.3.182.0

Can you create a remote database from the Demo database (Act10Demo)?  Open the Demo database locally on the server, enable synchronization and see if you can create a remote from there.  If you can, then you may have a database issue and can run repairs and rebuilds from Act Diagnostics (see Knowledgebase article at the bottom of this post). If you cannot, then have one of your workstations open their local copy of the demo database, enable synchronization and see if they can create a remote (this will not affect their current remote database).  If they can, then you probably have a damaged install of ACT! on your server, in which case you will need to uninstall and reinstall the program on the server.

Re: Errors Creating Remote Database’s – Version 10.3.182.0

Thanks Greig,

Tried the solution as suggested - turned out that a re-instal of the server version was the answer, did that and now everything from the server side is working... however now something similar has happened on one of the local versions of ACT - about to try a re-instal and hopefully that does the trick!

Cheers again!
