Email address not showing up in To field

We've just installed Act 2013, and in setting up the email we're encountering a problem:  when we click on an email address in a contact record, we get the blank Outlook form but the email address doesn't appear in the To field.

Hello Deb,
Does this happen with all contacts? You may need to add the ACT! address book as the default address book in Outlook. Instructions are in this Knowledgebase article:
