Several of the users are having problems when opening Documents associated with clients. The documents, both Excel and Word documents, open read-only within Act. Another user, however, can open both types of documents withing Act without that problem, though. I have checked and the database folder permissions are set to everyone. The files were created in Office 2007, and these users have Office 2007. I have tried running maintenance, but that did not fix the problem Thanks very much for your assistance.

If they are attempting to open the document while another user has it open, this may cause it to be read-only. Also, are the docs read-only if they open the file from it's original location or if they open it directly from the Documents folder in your ACT! database files?
Note: Effective 6/1/13, Sage no longers provides support for the Act! software. This is now provided by Swiftpage.

Is the problem related to specific users or machines... that is, if a user who can't open the files logs into a machine where the files can be opened, can they then open them?
What operating system on server and workstations?
There are a lot of people I have seen on google with this issues in Office (ie not related to ACT!).
Maybe have a look at these:

The problem is related to specific users, not computers. Also, it is only the files in the Act folder. They can open other Word and Excel files on the server correctly. I will take a look at these links. Thanks.
