Document templates for all users

Hi,

Is there is a way that ACT handles distribution of custom document templates for both remote and workstation users. As an example, if an admin user creates a Word document template and wants it synced to all users how could that be accomplished.

Thanks,
Wayne

ps. I created a word template on my remote database but could not find a way to sync it out.

Re: Document templates for all users

Once I installed MS word on the server machine and configured Act on that machine to use MS Word as the document editor I was able to see the templates on the server machine. Unfortunately I dont recall if I checked the actual folder or whether I was looking through the list of templates via the Act menus to begin with so I dont really know whether they had synced in the first place and I was just not seeing them or whether its a requirement to set Word onthe server machine. Any how its working.

Thanks,
Wayne

ps. I'd like to put a link to certain templates on the menu list for all users, is there any automatic way to do this or does it have to be manually done on each users machine.

You might check this ACT! Knowledge Base article - http://tinyurl.com/2hwzyp

I had checked that setting (in the above knowledgebase article) and it was set correctly. Installing Word on the server machine did resolve the issue for some reason and thats what support suggested I do. I'm also not sure there was a synching issue in the first place or whether it was just due to the selection of the 'Act Word Processor' on the server causing the Word documents not to show up. Anyway its resolved now.

I guess this doesn't work too well if I'm creating the template menus on a remote where the directory structure is different to the LAN users.

Well, it wouldn't show up on the server if you have a different wp selected

How are you then putting them on the server?

I created the template menu items whilst on my remote machine and copied the command bars file (ConnectedBars258) to a shared directory on the server. From there I copied it to a LAN users machine but none of the custom menu items worked. I presumed it was due to the different directory structure on the 2 machines.

Best,

Re: Document templates for all users

From the end of the document you quoted:
"Note: If you reference a specific path in your custom commands for toolbar icons (i.e. c:\mytoolbaricons) or similar items such as templates, these items must reside in the exact same file location on each computer for those references to be valid."

Thats pretty much where I went wrong. I should have installed ACT on each machine so the entire directory structure are the same on all machines. I'm thinking of moving the database and all files to the same directory structure on each machine i.e c:\actdb\
Is there any problems that could arrise from doing it this way.

Thanks,
Wayne
