Database sharing: Data does not update

Hi,

 

I'm having problems with sharing a database and have tried many suggestions but cannot get the data to update. I'll list the steps that I have taken:

 

- shared the database

- transferred .pad file to the other computers

- open database on the other local computers

 

The database opens and I can view all of the data but if I make a change on the main computer that holds the original copy, it does not get updated on the other computers unless I close the database and open it up again on the other computers. I've also given full sharing priviledges including write but to no avail. I also unshared the database and when trying to open the same database from the other computers I got an error, so I know that the .pad file is okay.

 

Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

Have you tried View | Refresh (F5) on the other systems rather than restarting the database? The screen doesn't automatically refresh on the other machines when a change is made on one machine.

 Hi,

 

Sorry forgot to mention that important detail, version 2008.

 

Also, the problem is a 2 way problem in that any changes made on the other computers will not show on the main computer with the database unless the database is closed and reopened through ACT on the main computer.

Hi Roy,

 

That was the problem, thank you for helping me solve this problem. I knew that it was something small but couldnt figure it out, I thought that if you clicked on a different contact and went back to the previous contact it would automatically refresh.
