Database Restore Issue

Hi Team,

 

We have taken database backup  from our old server installed with  Act Premium 2011(Web) having Microsoft SQL Server 2008 -Express Edition(RTM, Build 10.50.1600.1)

 

Now, We have installed Act Premium 2010 on laptop( Windows 8) and updated SQL server 2008 - Express Edition(SP2, Build 10.50.4000.0) and we could create new database and its working fine.

 

However, when we try to restore database from old server the database was successfully restore but while opening the restore database getting  message " This database has been updated to work with a more current version of ACT! You must update your copy of ACT! in order to log on to this database

Later,after going through support knowledge base trooubleshooting.

We have updated SQL Server version same as in old Server i.e  SQL Server 2008 -Express Edition(RTM, Build 10.50.1600.1) in laptop(Windows 8) for Act Premium 2010 and tried to restore database.

 

Below are the results

The database was successfully restore but while opening the restore database getting  message " This database has been updated to work with a more current version of ACT! You must update your copy of ACT! in order to log on to this database

 

Request you to help on this database restore issue.

Try doing a Restore As rather than a Restore and see if that works.

Hi Roy,

 

We have already tried with Restore As option for restoring our database and we got message "Database Restore Successfully.

Also we have check database using ACTDiag and database was created.

 

But still we getting below  while opening the restore database " This database has been updated to work with a more current version of ACT! You must update your copy of ACT! in order to log on to this database

 

Request you to provide us the solution

The error message says it all: Your database is ACT 2011 and you try to open it with ACT 2010. this is not possible. Fin!

Hi Roy Laudenslager,

 

Can you confirm it is not possible to Act 2011 database can be restored in Act 2010 as per twolfrom's reply

You can never go backwards which is why you are prompted to make a backup before upgrading.

ACT! doesn't allow restoring a database backed up with a later database schema to an install using an earlier database schema. This is true of major versions and service packs within a single version.

Thanks Roy for the information.

 

However, initially we try to install Act 2011 for web on laptop(windows 8), while installation we got below error(screen snap)

Kindly help us to install Act! 2011 for web on laptop with windows 8 operating system so that we could able to restore our database

Hi Roy,

 

As you said database will not allow to restore in later versions of Act!

We have database back of old server running with ACT! Premium 2011 for Web.

 

Now, we are unable to install ACT! Premium 2011 for Web on Laptop with Window 8 operating system.

Getting below error while installtion

 

Prereq.Exceptions.KeyDoesntExistExceptiom.....

 

Request you to kindly check and help us to install this application to restore our database in laptop.
