Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

[ Edited ]

Everyday when I log into ACT the dashboard link on the navbar disappears.  We add it back every morning and the next day it is gone.  This did not start until we updated from version 20 to 21.  Any ideas on how to fix?

We are running ACT Premium Plus version 21 on a shared server.  Operating system is Windows 7 pro.

Re: Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

You could try in ACT - Tools - Customise - Reset Menus and toolbars.

Once done you will have to add back your settings but they should stay.

If this does not work CLOSE ACT and try typing %appdata% in the windows search area and click on the appdata file.

Now click on ACT - ACT DATA and you will see the preferences folder - Delete this folder.

Now open up ACT and it will rebuild the deleted files, you will have to add back any preferences you have changed and also tick the Dashboard again but it should now remember them.

Hello,

In the same folder can also try deleting only the  file named actnavbar_premv21.ser

Thank you,

Re: Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

Hi Carl

Have you noticed that upgrades from 20 to 21 are not removing the v20 ser files. Not sure if this might be behind this error if it is calling on the wrong ser file. Might be worth looking at for V21 SP1to remove old files in this area as part of the update.

Re: Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

Customer is on Act! Premium Version 21.0.295.0 update 7

* Reset menus and toolbars

changed the navbar to show dashboard and hide AMA

* I renamed the Preferences folder to Preferences.old and restarted Act!

changed the navbar to show dashboard and hide AMA

* I deleted the Preferences folder restarted Act!

changed the navbar to show dashboard and hide AMA

restarted - no navbar settings are saved

* I went into actdiag deleted all preferences files

Re: Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

This is a guess but worth a try -

Follow Carl's instructions after making the change but instead of deleting this file make it read only.

NB If it works note you would need to make read / write again if you wanted to change any nav bar setting.

My understanding is that this is a known issue and there is no fix

Re: Dashboard navbar add/remove preferences not saving

I have the exact same problem, but not on every restart of ACT. It tends to happen every so  often to a # of users. I removed the preferences folder for the users having the issue and I have not experienced the problem yet. We will see..
