Could not Delete or Edit scheduler Backup Service

After reformatting my computer in 2012, I re-installed ACT! Premium. Recently in 2013, I upgrade to ACT!2013. When I try to set up my scheduler back-up, I found that I already have a scheduler back-up for my previous version. I tried to delete it so that I can do a new back-up but it does not allow me to do so. Later, I discovered that I may have accidentally deleted earlier back-up file. What shall I do? Thanks.

This can happen if the files that hold onto the scheduled items isn't removing the original entries.  Navigate to the file holding the information and rename them as follows:

 

Navigate to the scheduler data:

  • Windows XP/Windows Server® 2003 -C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ACT\ACT For Windows {version of ACT!}
  • Windows Vista®/Windows Server 2008 - C:\ProgramData\ACT\ACT For Windows {version of ACT!}
  • Windows 7® - C:\ProgramData\ACT\ACT Data

(If you don't see these folders, you will need to enable View Hidden Files or Folders)

 

You should see two files:  

ActSchedulerItems

SCHEDULER_FILE.xml

 

Rename both of them to look like this:

OLDActSchedulerItems

OLDSCHEDULER_FILE.xml

 

Open the scheduler, and you should see that there is nothing listed at all.  Set your scheduled items again.

 

For your lost backup file, if it has been deleted I cannot restore it.

Hi Bill,

 

I have changed to a new notebook with Windows 10. The same thing occurs. The problem now is that I could not find 

 

ActSchedulerItems

SCHEDULER_FILE.xml

 

in the program file in Windows 10.

, Make sure you are looking in C:\ProgramData\ACT\ACT Data, and not c:\program files

When I open the file as suggested, this is what I see on Act Scheduler:

 

Act.Scheduler.

Act.Scheduler.exe

Act.Scheduler.InstallLog.

Act.Scheduler.InstallState.

Act.Scheduler.Ul

Act.Scheduler.Ul.exe

 

Sorry that I am not very good with computers.

I don"t see the ones mentioned by Bill.

Hi George,

 

Looks like you're in the wrong folder.

 

If you click the top bar in the Windows explorer as indicated in the screenshot below:

Then paste the following line into the bar

 

C:\ProgramData\ACT\ACT Data

 

It will take you to the location of the SCHEDULER_FILE.xml where you can try the suggestions posted above.
