Contacts not seen in the Companies area

I have act 2010 Premium and am still trying to familiarize myself with the program. I have imported numerous csv files into the data base via the contacts method  and all the contact info seem  to be fine. When I click on companies in the lft colume i would suspect to see all my contacts associated with their prospective companies and arranged accordingly. What I see is no companies at all.

Companies are not automatically created during an import. There are several addin software pieces which do this, most modestly priced..  Here is a link to one of these Add Ins
